In a distressing incident, eight recent graduates on their way to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation program in Sokoto have been abducted by armed gunmen. Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press at NYSC headquarters, disclosed that the abduction occurred during a night-time journey to their designated orientation camp, with the assailants intercepting their Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus on the outskirts of Zamfara.
Three passengers managed to escape, while the remaining eight were seized by the gunmen. Notably, the Director-General of the NYSC is currently in Zamfara, collaborating with security agencies to secure their safe release.
Megwa stressed the risks of nighttime travel, emphasizing that the call-up letter specifically advises against it and recommends resting until the following day if darkness falls during the journey. Despite challenging circumstances, NYSC officials remain committed to ensuring the safe return of the abducted graduates.
