After close to three decades together, Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, has officially filed for divorce, bringing their long union to an end.
According to court documents, Tomeka revealed she and the singer were married in September 1996. She is now seeking to dissolve the marriage on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.
The couple share a 17-year-old child, and Tomeka is requesting joint legal custody while asking for physical custody. She is also seeking spousal support but wants the court to prevent Akon from receiving any support from her.
Over the years, Akon has often avoided giving direct answers about how many wives he has, but Tomeka’s filing makes her position clear.
As of now, the singer has not publicly commented on the divorce proceedings.
