Mavin Record Label, established in 2012, has played a pivotal role in elevating Nigerian music onto the global stage. Throughout the early 2010s, it produced a stream of chart-topping hits and continues to nurture artists who shape our favorite musical genres. While we may be familiar with the lyrics of their songs, our knowledge of the label’s members remains somewhat limited. Don Jazzy
Don Jazzy, also known by his full name Michael Collins Ajereh, serves as the CEO and proprietor of Mavin. However, he initially gained prominence as a producer, collaborating with D’banj to establish the now inactive Mo’Hits Record Label. After the separation between him and D’Banj led to the dissolution of Mo’Hits, Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records in 2012. Although he has stepped back from active producing and singing, he occasionally re-emerges to contribute in those roles.
2. Rema
Rema, also known as Divine Ikubor, stands as a musical prodigy for the emerging generation. A prominent artist under Mavin Records’ flagship, he specializes in crafting captivating trap and Afropop tunes. His journey began when he caught the attention of Mavin through their subsidiary Jonzing World, overseen by Charles Enebeli, Don Jazzy’s sibling.
3. Ayra Starr
At just 19 years old, Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, known by her stage name Ayra Starr, seems to embody the manifestation of her incredible talent. As revealed by Don Jazzy, she was once a part of the Mavin Academy, a hub for nurturing emerging talents. Introducing a fresh talent ready to revolutionize the music industry: Charles Chibueze Chukwu, known as Crayon. At just 21 years old, he’s making waves as an Afropop sensation, and he’s proudly signed under Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of Mavin. His affiliation with the label was unveiled in May 2019, and since then, he has dropped two impressive EPs.
5. LadiPoe
Ladipo Eso, widely recognized as Ladipoe, garnered significant success last year with his hit track “Know You.” However, he has been part of the Mavin Records roster since February 28, 2017, maintaining his role as a talented rapper within the label.
6. Johnny Drille
Recognized as a supremely talented artist by Don Jazzy personally, Johnny Drille encompasses the roles of a singer, songwriter, producer, and sound engineer. Born and raised in the picturesque town of Bonny Island, Rivers State, Lifesize Teddy, whose full name is Banigo Apiafi Treasure, became a part of Mavin Records on August 9, 2023.
