Brazilian Pensioner Celebrates 123rd Birthday Amid Claims of Being World’s Oldest Man

Andrelino Vieira da Silva, a Brazilian pensioner residing in Aparecida de Goiania, Goias, celebrated his 123rd birthday amidst claims of being the world’s oldest man, with his family attesting to his continued good health.

Born on February 3, 1901, according to his ID card, da Silva marked his milestone birthday on Saturday, February 3, surrounded by his family. Despite his remarkable age, da Silva remains in good spirits, as confirmed by his granddaughter, Janaina Lemes de Souza, who described him as “fine” and “in great health.”

De Souza also revealed that her grandfather often receives recognition from people on the street who ask for photos with him, a testament to his enduring presence in the community.

While da Silva has not pursued verification of his age with Guinness World Records, the official title is currently held by Maria Branyas Morera, aged 115, from California. However, his family remains steadfast in their belief in his exceptional longevity, with de Souza affirming his resilience.

Celebrations for da Silva’s birthday were subdued this year due to family circumstances, with de Souza mentioning that the family owns three houses on the same property, with da Silva living independently in one.

In past years, da Silva’s birthday has been marked with intimate family gatherings, including one in 2022 during the recovery from Covid-19. His sense of humor was evident during his “121st” birthday celebration, where a cake humorously referenced his pension claim with the INSS, prompting a heartwarming response from the pension service.

Having witnessed significant historical events spanning two world wars, communist revolutions, and cultural milestones like the Beatles’ rise to fame, da Silva’s longevity is a testament to a life well-lived.

While Guinness World Records officially recognizes Maria Branyas Morera as the world’s oldest living person, da Silva’s family remains proud of his remarkable journey and wishes him many more years of health and happiness.
