An unfortunate incident resulting in the tragic death of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, unfolded on Wednesday, April 10, as reported by iSEE Magazine. The actor lost his life due to drowning following a boat accident while returning from a movie set.
Eyewitness testimony sheds light on the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision. According to the witness, the boat carrying Junior Pope collided with another vessel carrying passengers, leading to the catastrophic collapse of both boats in the river. The witness attributed the collision to the failure of Junior Pope’s boat operator to spot an oncoming vessel in time, resulting in the unavoidable clash.
Tragically, the absence of divers compounded the dire situation, leaving victims stranded without immediate assistance. Despite the harrowing circumstances, some survivors managed to cling to the rope of a capsized boat, finding temporary refuge until rescue arrived. Fortunately, timely intervention by individuals on another vessel facilitated the rescue operation.
As of now, three bodies, including that of Junior Pope, have been recovered, while efforts persist to locate and retrieve the remaining victims. The search continues amidst the somber aftermath of the devastating accident.
