Federal Government of Nigeria Announces Increase in Passport Fees, Effective September 2024

The Federal Government has announced a revision of the fees for Nigerian passports, which will take effect starting September 1, 2024. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) disclosed the changes in a statement released on Wednesday night, August 21, 2024.

According to the NIS, the cost of a 32-page Passport booklet with a five-year validity will increase from Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) to Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00). Similarly, the 64-page Passport booklet with a ten-year validity will now cost One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00), up from the previous Seventy Thousand Naira (N70,000.00).

The statement clarified that these fee adjustments apply only within Nigeria, as the fees for passports issued in the Diaspora will remain unchanged.

The NIS expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the price hike but reassured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining transparency and delivering quality service. “While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” the statement reads in part.
