The Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended the operations of Dana Airline due to concerns about the safety and financial viability of their operations. This decision comes just a day after one of the airline’s planes, with registration number 5N BKI, skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday, April 23.
In a letter to the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Ministry of Aviation stated that recent incidents involving Dana Airline have raised “serious safety concerns.” The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, directed the NCAA to initiate the suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet pending a comprehensive audit.
The audit will focus on safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure full compliance with aviation regulations. The Ministry emphasized the urgency of the matter and the need for swift action to safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.
This suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens and travelers. The Ministry appreciates the expertise and diligence of the NCAA in carrying out this audit and looks forward to being informed of the progress and any significant findings.
The suspension of Dana Airline’s operations will remain in effect until the audit is completed and the airline is found to be in compliance with all safety and financial regulations.
