Friends Pushed Me to Join a Cult for My Career – Phyno

Renowned rapper Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, who goes by the stage name Phyno, recently shared a revealing anecdote from his early days in the music industry. He disclosed that he once faced the temptation to take shortcuts like joining a cult or resorting to rituals to achieve rapid fame and success.

Phyno used this revelation as an opportunity to advise aspiring artists about the pitfalls of seeking quick routes to success. He stressed that, for him, the essential ingredients for achieving success were hard work, unwavering determination, and resilience. He firmly rejected the idea of shortcuts.

In his counsel to emerging artists, Phyno urged them to exercise caution and careful consideration when navigating their paths to success. He cautioned against hastily signing with record labels out of desperation and emphasized the importance of thoroughly understanding any contracts they might encounter.

During the interview, he stated, “Some people look at us today and think we had an easy ride, but that’s not the case. I’ve never been drawn to the easy way out. Even before many people knew about Phyno, I had songs that no one had heard of. A few friends suggested I take shortcuts, like joining a cult or making sacrifices, but I told them the price was too high. I’d never go down that path. I believed in myself and the power of hard work.

I started small, and today I’m grateful to God. Young talents need to take it easy, not rush into record deals or the spotlight. Keep working, and when the time is right, you’ll shine. Imagine begging a label to sign you – what kind of terms will they offer? They already know you’re desperate, and they might exploit you. In the beginning, you may not see it, but with time, you’ll regret it. Nothing rewards more than hard work and consistency.”
