The Lagos State Government has initiated a crackdown on illegal estate developments along the Epe corridor of the state, as announced by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, in a statement released on Saturday, April 20.
Olumide disclosed that a special joint exercise was conducted in the area on Thursday, April 18, and Friday, April 19, following directives from the state executive council. The operation targeted various areas including Alaro City, Okorisan, Igbodu, Molajoye, Shaala, Ketu, and Epe.
During the exercise, notices were served on several estate developments such as Patriot Bay Estate, Smart City Estate, the Legend, and Hilton Royal Garden, among others. Erring estate developers were instructed to rectify their documentation by visiting the relevant authorities.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of obtaining layout approval, planning permit, and fencing permit before commencing estate development. He highlighted that these requirements were essential for creating an organized, livable, and sustainable built environment.
Layout approval ensures proper arrangement of the estate, allowing for appropriate services and infrastructure, while the planning permit addresses planning requirements on individual plots within the estate.
Olumide cautioned property buyers against investing in estates without proper approval to avoid potential legal issues with government authorities. This proactive measure aims to uphold regulatory standards and protect the interests of both developers and residents in Lagos State.
