LASTMA’s Uniform Unauthorized Use Warning: Film and Skit Creators at Risk

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Warns Against Unauthorized Use of Uniforms in Films and Skits

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to film and skit creators who have been using its uniforms and kits without proper authorization. In an official press statement signed by Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for LASTMA, the management emphasized that the unauthorized use of LASTMA uniforms, kits, and accessories by filmmakers and comedians is illegal.

Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager (GM) of LASTMA, expressed strong disapproval of the negative portrayal of the institution in movies and comedy productions. Oreagba pointed out that the improper use of LASTMA uniforms in the absence of compliance with Section 79 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which explicitly criminalizes such unauthorized use, is a cause for concern.

The GM’s concerns were raised after observing a scene in a Nollywood film titled ‘Gbogbo Lowo,’ where an actress was dressed in a fully outfitted LASTMA uniform. Similar instances were also noticed in spoof videos circulating on various social media platforms.

Adebayo Taofiq’s statement conveyed that Oreagba strongly advises film and skit creators to cease depicting Lastma Officers without obtaining the necessary permit. Failure to comply with this directive could result in legal consequences.

Oreagba emphasized that implementing a more responsible approach to filmmaking, as well as regulating the possession and use of Lastma uniforms, will effectively curtail the proliferation of these items within society.

The LASTMA management has called upon the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) and other affiliated organizations to take action by cautioning their members. The statement concluded with a firm declaration from the LASTMA boss that individuals caught using Lastma Uniforms without proper authorization will face prosecution.
