Man Dies After Jumping into Lagos Lagoon While Being Chased for Alleged Theft

A tragic incident occurred on April 26, 2024, at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge, resulting in the death of a man identified as Azeez. According to reports, Azeez jumped into the Lagos Lagoon while being chased by a mob, led by one Elijah Amos, for allegedly stealing bags of cement.

The Director of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived at the scene to find the lifeless body of Azeez, who had drowned. The corpse has been evacuated and deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, which has been confirmed as a case of suicide by drowning.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of mob justice and the importance of seeking legal recourse in cases of alleged theft.
