Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, were granted bail on November 6 by a Magistrate court in Yaba. The court set their bail at N20 million each and required three responsible sureties. As part of their bail conditions, they must surrender their international passports, make weekly appearances at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and provide three sureties in like sum. The presiding magistrate also warned against any attempts to contact her directly, as such communication could be recorded and disclosed in open court proceedings.
Naira Marley and Sam Larry had been accused of physically assaulting the late singer Mohbad following his demise and were initially remanded by the police upon their return to Nigeria. They had been in custody since October 4, 2023. Last week, the two filed a lawsuit against the Magistrate and Police, seeking N20 million each as damages, before the Federal High Court in Lagos, naming the police and magistrate as defendants.
