Nigerian track and field sensation, Tobi Amusan, has received full clearance from a dedicated committee tasked with probing the doping accusations brought against her by the Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU). Previously under provisional suspension due to alleged non-compliance with three testing instances within a year, Amusan faced exclusion from the 26-member Nigerian Athletics Federation (AFN) team earmarked for the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
In a remarkable turn of events, the global governing body for athletics, World Athletics, issued a statement on Thursday, August 17, asserting the immediate lifting of Amusan’s suspension. This decision follows a meticulous evaluation that revealed no infringement of anti-doping regulations on her part. The determined athlete can now resume her journey to the pinnacle of sporting achievement with newfound vindication.
Read The Statement Below;
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.
“AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline. The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course.”
Following the clearance, Amusan will now be able to participate and defend her women’s 100m hurdles titles at the 2023 World Athletics Championships billed to hold in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19 to 27.
