Nigerian High Commission Issues Security Advisories for AFCON Semi-Final Match Between Super Eagles & Bafana Bafana
The Nigerian High Commission in South Africa has released security advisories to Nigerian nationals ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 5, 2024, the High Commission highlighted concerns over potentially inflammatory online comments and veiled threats against Nigerians by a segment of the South African population.
The statement urged members of the Nigerian community to exercise caution in their speech, choose their viewing locations carefully, particularly in public spaces, and avoid engaging in loud, riotous, or provocative celebrations should the Super Eagles emerge victorious.
Furthermore, the High Commission emphasized the importance of maintaining the positive reputation Nigerians are known for and urged them to abide by the law before, during, and after the match. It also stressed that any provocations should be reported to the appropriate authorities rather than retaliated against.
