The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has expressed strong disapproval of clergymen wearing braided hair and clergywomen sporting false eyelashes and heavy makeup, calling for a return to modesty within the church.
During the church’s recent annual convention, Pastor Adeboye made it clear that such trends among church workers will no longer be tolerated. He specifically addressed the issue of male pastors with braided hair, stating, “In Yorubaland, the only men who braid hair are the priests of Sango, the god of thunder. They say this is a new age and that we must be adaptable to what is going on. To continue as Sango priests? Not in this mission. Even after I’m gone, it will still not happen.”
He also warned female pastors against excessive makeup, likening it to looking like a “representative of Nollywood.” He emphasized that any female pastor found overdoing their appearance will be asked to leave the altar. “You may not like it. If you are my children, you can’t kill me,” he remarked, adding that true men don’t wear makeup because they believe God made no mistake in their creation.
The 82-year-old cleric also criticized the practice of wearing false nails and eyelashes, questioning the intent behind such choices. “When you begin to fix false nails, I wonder what you want to achieve – If God wanted to make you a bird, He would have given you a false nail and false eyelashes,” Adeboye stated.
He urged those who enjoy “appearing weird” to repent and adopt a more modest appearance, asserting, “Tell anybody who questions why you are making this drastic change, tell him or her, ‘Daddy GO said so.'”
Pastor Adeboye further addressed the issue of women who expose their bodies, suggesting that such actions stem from insecurity. “Any woman who exposes her boobs believes that she is ugly and needs to divert attention from her face. She wants to divert attention from her face. She believes she is ugly, so the man will be lured,” he said, reassuring his followers, “All my daughters, listen to me: You are fearfully and wonderfully made. If anybody does not like you the way you are, it’s that person’s loss.”
