Peter Obi’s ‘Obidients’ Movement Was a Mere Political Arrangement – Sowore

In a recent interview with iSEE Magazine, Omoyele Sowore shared his candid views on the Obidient Movement, diverging from the prevailing narrative. Contrary to popular belief, Sowore expressed skepticism regarding the impact of Peter Obi and his movement on Nigeria’s political landscape during the last general election. He asserted that if they had indeed made significant strides, the country wouldn’t be facing its current challenges.

Sowore dismissed the Obidient Movement as a mere political ploy orchestrated by the entrenched political class. He remarked, “What Obi came to do is what the political class had planned for him to do, which is to create a movement that will make it sound like Nigeria is going to shake but Nigeria will not shake.” Drawing a metaphorical comparison, he likened Peter Obi to a sheep leading a pack of lions, emphasizing the lack of viability in such an arrangement.

Further critiquing the involvement of figures like Obasanjo and Babangida in the movement, Sowore contended that individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s current predicament cannot be expected to lead the nation toward meaningful change. He asserted, “Obi himself is part of the system that put Nigeria where it is today.”

Regarding Nigeria’s electoral history, Sowore highlighted the significance of the June 12 election, where MKO Abiola emerged as the winner before the results were annulled by Babangida. He cast doubt on the integrity of subsequent elections, suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not genuinely planned an election since then.

Sowore’s remarks offer a thought-provoking perspective on Nigeria’s political landscape and the challenges it faces. To delve deeper into his insights, watch the full interview on iSEE Magazine Youtube Channel, and stay tuned for more engaging news and events.
