The Super Falcons of Nigeria have emerged champions of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a dramatic 3-2 victory over host nation, Morocco.
Morocco started off strong with Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 12th minute with a superb strike from the edge of the box. They doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Sanaâ Mssoudy dribbled past Michelle Alozie and slotted a low shot past Chiamaka Nnadozie to put the hosts 2-0 up.
But Nigeria returned in the second half with renewed energy and determination.
Esther Okoronkwo pulled one back for the Super Falcons in the 64th minute through a confidently taken penalty. Just seven minutes later, Folashade Ijamilusi leveled the score with a sharp finish inside the box.
The decisive moment came in the 88th minute when substitute Jennifer Echegini found the back of the net with a composed finish, sealing a remarkable comeback and handing Nigeria their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
